WHY SHOULD I SWITCH FROM SHAVING TO WAXING OR SUGARING?"

We love sugaring and waxing because the results last for weeks and over time your hair will grow back softer and thinner. Both treatments create less waste than traditional shaving, plus sugaring uses 100% natural ingredients and is great for sensitive skin.

What Is Sugaring?

Sugaring, an ancient art of hair removal dating back to 1900 BC in Egypt and the Middle East, offers a gentle and effective alternative to modern waxing. This technique involves applying a warm sugar paste to the skin and removing unwanted hair in the natural direction of growth. Unlike waxing, sugaring does not involve hot temperatures, reducing the risk of burns, and there's no double-dipping, ensuring hygiene.

The benefits of sugaring extend beyond its gentle application. By removing hair in the direction of growth, sugaring minimizes pain, reduces breakage, and lowers the likelihood of ingrown hairs. The process also exfoliates dead skin cells, leaving skin smooth, clean, and glowing. These qualities make sugaring especially suitable for individuals with sensitive skin prone to breakouts, including pregnant women.

Moreover, sugaring tends to yield longer-lasting results compared to waxing, enhancing its appeal for those seeking effective hair removal solutions. As consumer preferences shift towards organic beauty practices, sugaring has gained popularity due to its natural ingredients and gentle method.

In summary, sugaring stands out as a safer, more organic alternative to traditional waxing, offering smoother, longer-lasting results without the drawbacks associated with hotter waxes.

These are great tips for ensuring a successful sugaring experience and maintaining smooth, healthy skin afterward. Let's break down each tip:

Preparing for your first sugaring or waxing appointment can make a significant difference in your comfort and the effectiveness of the treatment. Here’s a step-by-step guide based on the advice provided:

  1. Grow Out Your Hair: Allow your hair to grow to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long (approximately the length of a grain of rice). This length allows the sugaring or waxing product to grip the hair effectively, resulting in a cleaner removal.
  2. Exfoliate: Use a loofah or body brush to lightly exfoliate your skin before your appointment. This helps remove dead skin cells and ensures a smoother result from your sugaring or waxing treatment. However, do not apply lotion afterwards to avoid any barrier that might interfere with hair removal.
  3. Avoid Lotions and Deodorants: Refrain from applying lotions or deodorants before your appointment. These products can create a barrier between your hair and the sugaring or waxing product, making it harder to achieve optimal results. Additionally, some chemicals in these products could potentially irritate your skin during hair removal.
  4. Take Pain Relief if Needed: If you’re concerned about discomfort during the treatment, consider taking ibuprofen or Advil about 45 minutes before your appointment. This can help reduce any pain or sensitivity you might experience.
  5. Relax: Trust in the expertise of your esthetician. They are trained to perform these treatments efficiently and with minimal discomfort. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to communicate with them—they are there to ensure you have a positive experience.

BONUS TIP: WHAT NOT TO DO BEFORE SUGARING OR WAXING:

You shouldn't sugar or wax ...

  • If you are using Accutane. You should not wax for at least 6 months after using the product.
  • If you are using Retin A, Renova, Strivectin, or any other topical or oral medications that may affect the outcome of your treatment.
  • For one week after laser treatments.
  • If you have a sunburn.
  • After spray tanning (it will remove your tan and leave a line). However, you can do a spray tan the next day after your waxing/sugaring appointment.

Sugaring FAQs

  • Can sugaring be done on any hair density/any ethnicity?

YES!!!! We work with every ethnicity and every hair type.

  • How long do I wait between appointments?

The optimal interval between sugaring sessions is typically recommended to be 3-4 weeks. This timeframe allows the hair to regrow sufficiently so that it can be effectively removed from the root during the next session.

If you're considering more frequent sugaring sessions, it's advisable to discuss pricing and optimal scheduling directly with us. We can provide personalized recommendations based on your hair growth pattern and skincare goals. This communication ensures you receive the best results and value from your sugaring treatments.

  • How long does sugaring last?

Understanding the hair growth cycles is key to understanding the effectiveness and timing of sugaring treatments:

    1. Hair Growth Cycles: Hair grows in cycles. During your first sugaring session, we typically remove hair from the first two cycles completely, and part of the hair from the third cycle. This is why some clients may feel stubble shortly after their first appointment—it's the third cycle hair starting to emerge.
    2. Subsequent Sugaring Sessions: With regular sugaring appointments (typically recommended every 3-4 weeks), you start to synchronize the removal of hair across all three growth cycles. This means that after a few sessions, you can expect to have smoother skin for longer periods because all cycles are being addressed simultaneously.  As you continue with regular treatments, the intervals between sessions can potentially extend to 3-6 weeks, depending on individual hair growth rates and personal preferences.
    3. Personal Variability: The duration between sessions can vary based on factors like how quickly your hair grows and personal preferences for maintaining hair-free skin. Some clients may prefer to come in more frequently (e.g., every 2 weeks) to maintain consistently smooth skin, while others may opt for longer intervals.

  • How long will my Brazilian appointment take?

First time appointments we reserve 45 minutes to leave any time for explanation, tweezing and any additional ingrown hair treatments. It usually takes about 15-20 minutes to do the sugaring portion of the appointment.

  • Will the hair grow back darker and coarser?

No, hair should actually grow back thinner. Routine sugaring will noticeably reduce hair growth and the re-growth seen usually takes longer to appear and is much thinner.
